Athlete Monitoring
12 total study hours
Study format: four 3-hour modules with practical activities and a final applied assessment.
Description
Collect and interpret wearable data, training records, perceived effort, and wellness information. Evaluate data quality and communicate an athlete’s weekly monitoring results in context.
Audience
Coaches, athletes, sport scientists, and performance staff.
Applied outcome
Produce a weekly athlete-monitoring report that identifies useful patterns, missing data, and measurement limitations.
Module 1: Monitoring questions and practical data collection
3 hours
Choose a clear monitoring question, select relevant measures, organize training records, and plan consent and appropriate access to athlete information.
Module activity: Build a monitoring checklist and a data-collection template for a sample athlete.
Module 2: Wearables, GPS/GNSS, and heart-rate data
3 hours
Examine the main outputs of wearable and GPS/GNSS devices, heart-rate records, device consistency, sampling, and common measurement errors.
Module activity: Review a sample wearable export and flag missing, inconsistent, or implausible records.
Module 3: Perceived effort, wellness, and trend interpretation
3 hours
Combine objective training records with session effort and wellness reports. Examine trends and context rather than relying on one readiness score.
Module activity: Create simple charts for a sample training week and explain what the patterns can and cannot show.
Module 4: Weekly monitoring report and final assessment
3 hours
Select a small set of relevant metrics, communicate uncertainty, and present a concise report for a coach or performance team.
Module activity: Submit a weekly athlete-monitoring report with charts, data-quality notes, and questions for professional review.
